Winter Skin and How I Deal With It

If you have dry skin, you get it. Heck, if you have combo skin, you experience it. Winter skin. Dullness, dryness, texture. Cold temperatures and dryer air- they do a number on my skin. Summer? Forget about it. Sure my skin is oilier, but a good acne cream and a couple of clarifying masks a week keep things in line. But once October/November rolls around I have to pay more attention to my skincare regime. These are some of the products I use to combat winter skin.

My skin can look at little blah this time of year. I rotate between chemical exfoliators (Pixi Glow Tonic, Aveeno 60 second in-shower facial) and this physical exfoliator by Fresh. I try not to overdue it, because over exfoliating can lead to skin aging, yikes! The Pixi Glow Tonic is so gentle, and I use it once a day. The Aveeno mask is also gentle, and surprisingly moisturizing. And the price is right.

Gimme that moisture, then give me some more. This is my motto this time of year. I achieve maximum hydration by a combo of skin cream/serum and masks. The Ordinary buffet serum provides a nice base for my skin cream. The texture is just the right thickness and the hylaronic acid does a good good at plumping. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I love the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. (blogged about here) During this time of year this cream is an absolute necessity.

Two masks I’ve been using more are the Avene hydrating mask and the Fresh Rose mask. The Avene has a creamy texture, while the Fresh mask is a gel consistency. Both give my skin a good moisture boost.

Body Care

I’m pretty religious about moisturizing my body every day. But this time of year I need a little extra care. I get those little bumps on my arms and decolletage. The Ameliorate lotion has lactic acid and helps exfoliate these bumps away. My lips are pretty dry, especially lately. I have to use this Lush lip scrub several times a week. Mine is the bubblegum flavor. The Laneige mask is a relatively new addition to my lipcare collection. And it’s great. So effective, and a little goes a long way, so it will last a while.

To help my foundation from getting cakey and dry looking I mix a little of this Becca Priming Filter with my foundation. It gives my skin that dewy look, and makes even super matte foundations set well.
