Summer Favorites

Are you ready for it? A new type of post that I hope to make a seasonal and/or monthly feature on the blog: my favorites! There are just some of the things I’ve been enjoying so far this summer.

I’ve done several fashion posts lately. (Here and here) And while a lot of those pieces have quickly become favorites, the two items pictured have been on repeat big time. The white T shirt is from Everlane. It is the perfect t shirt. Great cut and very soft cotton fabric. It holds up so well in the washer and dryer. I’ve worn it so much that the cost per wear is so low now. The gray pajama set is from Primark. They are made from the softest modal and are the most comfortable pair of pajamas I own.

My skin has been freaky out lately. Why? No idea. Story of my life. Maybe its all the SPF, stress…who knows! So I’ve had to marshal my forces in a manner of speaking. First off is the mini Foreo. I got it in the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I’d used the play version before and noticed my skin did well with it, so I decided to invest in the rechargeable version. So far my skin has been doing better; I’ve had less acne since using this again.

The tiny little pot from Farmacy is the Honey Potion Mask. I love this stuff. It tingles and is very warm when applied, but my skin is so soft afterwards. Honey is a really good skincare ingredient, both hydrating and antibacterial. I will be purchasing the full size version of this for sure!

I’ve been using the Ameliorate Body Lotion on my arms where I have keratosis (chicken skin). This stuff works! I’ve had much smoother arms since using it. I just apply a thin layer after showering, not everyday because the lactic acid (the exfoliate ingredient) is strong enough for occasional use. The only thing I don’t like is the smell; it smells like baby powder. Gross.

The Sunday Riley Saturn Sulfur Mask. Yes, it smells. Yes, the smell lingers. And yes, it, works. Whenever I have a worse than normal breakout, I apply a thin layer of this all over my face for 20 minutes. It has an immediate cooling effect, and my acne doesn’t look as angry/pronounced the next day. The only downside is the price, $55. It is Sunday Riley, after all. Not a cheap brand. Needless to say I waited for the Sephora VIB sale to purchase this.

I’ve wanted to try the Pixi Glow tonic for ages. But Target really overcharges for it. So I ordered it off of Cult Beauty. Take that Target. Already I find myself reaching for this everyday. It is gentle and effective. The chemical exfoliation from the glycolic acid is so gentle, unlike The Ordinary’s version. The smell is also nice!

And lastly, the Origins Super Spot Remover. Where would we be without this stuff? I dab this onto any spot I have at night before I go to bed and in the morning that spot is small and less irritated. My husband has even been using it. He’ll come out of my bathroom with bottle in hand and sheepishly ask if he can use some!

In the summer I pair down my makeup routine big time. Its hot, I’m sweaty, and let’s face it, this stuff is just gonna melt off my face anyways. But when I do wear makeup (i.e. actually leave the house), I’ve been reaching for the It Cosmetics CC cream, Kiko baked powder, and the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wand. The It Cosmetics CC cream has a high SPF, and gives a light coverage, which I really like this time of year. It’s also hydrating! The Kiko baked powder provides the perfect amount of mattification for my dry skin. I can set my under eyes with this and not look dried out. And the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wand is the perfect amount of highlight for me. I like my highlighter somewhere in the middle; not blinding, but still noticeable. It gives me that perfect summer glow factor.

I love me some bath/body products. I’m all about the self-care. My favorite fragrance for a while has been the Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamon. This smells unlike anything I’ve ever worn. It is floral, and yet sweet and subtly musky. A perfect combination. It is a lighter formula, so I have to spray several times to build up the scent, but that’s okay because I don’t like stronger perfumes.

I love a good bath. I have so many bath products that I use, but one I’ve been really enjoying is this bath oil by MOA. The formula is light enough that my skin doesn’t feel oily afterwards. The scent is strongly of fennel, with a hint of peppermint. The peppermint helps sore muscles, and the overall scent helps my sinuses. And how cute is that bottle?!

These books by Katherine Arden are sooooo good. They are set in medieval Russia and follow the story of a girl who gradually discovers she possesses special abilities. These abilities aren’t exactly magical powers persay, but important nonetheless. The story is interesting, the writing good, and the plot is paced well. The third book in the series comes out in January and I CAN’T wait!

And that’s it! Whew! Hope you enjoyed. Have you read my last post? You can here.
