Sewing and Styling a 1950s Skirt

Did you dream of a closet full of poodle skirts when you were little? No? Just me? Cool…. But really, a full 1950s, midi skirt is just so dreamy. Pair it with a petticoat for that new look look, or wear without, either way you’re in for some twirling! When I saw this reissue Simplicity pattern, I knew I had to make myself one. (I have a true vintage pattern for a 1950s circle skirt, but its for a size that was a few pounds ago). And I had a gift card for Mood Fabrics, talk about my fancy self! I chose a very nice black, double-faced (meaning I wouldn’t…

Modern Mod: Madewell, H&M, Sezane OOTD

After what feels like forever, I’m finally back! I switched web hosts which took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I’m back at it now. So to kick things off (or on?!), I want to share a little OOTD from last weekend. I’m calling this “modern mod.” Why “modern mod,” you may ask? Well, for starters: mini skirt. For seconds and thirds, a mini skirt made of cord material in burnt orange. Does it get more 60s than that? I picked this skirt up from Madewell a few months ago. I was on the hunt for this style of skirt and finally found one (in my size!).…

    Beauty Products I Repurchase

The true test of a beauty product? Do you repurchase. Is the product that good that you just can’t live without it? Does it do something that the other products you have don’t do? Or does it just do the job better? Is it a better price, or does a little go a long ways? There are the questions I think of when repurchasing beauty products. The products that I’m sharing today answer one or some of these questions in one way or another. Bodycare This bath “potion” (really a oil) by MOA is great. It is pepperminty and has a hefty amount of fennel in it. When my muscles…

Body care and Hydration: Body Oils

I won’t lie, when it comes to skin hydration I’m usually a lotion person. It’s easier to work into the skin, and it absorbs better (imo). But sometimes I want to use something that feels a little more luxurious. Something I have to take my time applying. That’s when I turn to body oils. I still remember the first one I used. It was the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse (with shimmer). I’d been wanting to try it for a long time, and when Target briefly carried it, I snatched up a bottle. I bought it before a trip to Disneyworld, and the whole time we were there I used it. My…

    Sewing Vintage Lingerie, Simplicity 8510

Vintage Lingerie I love vintage (or is it antique at this point?) lingerie. 1920s, 30s…40s, each decade gave us beautiful lingerie. Creamy pastels, lace trimming, appliques, and delicate draping fabric in silk, rayon, and cotton. The most basic of these garments (brassiere and panties), don’t differ vastly from what we wear today. Maybe the bras didn’t have underwires, and the bottoms are closer to shorts, but their function was still the same. The problem when you’re a lover of vintage lingerie is acquiring such pieces. At this point, many of the pieces that still exist are delicate and fragile, not to mentioned expensive, if you can even find them. And…

    My Current Morning Skincare Routine

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I’m a skincare junkie. I love trying new products, seeing what works for my skin, and what doesn’t. My current morning skincare routine is a mixture of tried and true anti-acne and hydration products. Cleanse Around Christmastime my skin had a bit of a freak-out. Probably all the rich food. Since then I’ve been using the It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser, the Ole Henriksen Balance Force Oil Control Toner, and Radha tea tree oil as a part of my morning skincare routine. These products combined have helped my skin settle down. The It Cosmetics cleanser gives more a…

    Fast Fashion: One Blogger’s Thoughts

Today, we’re going there. Fast fashion. Probably one of the most, if not the most controversial topic in fashion. Love it or hate it, fast fashion is everywhere, and has been for the last twenty years. Zara, H&M, Forever 21, Asos, Primark, Topshop…the list goes on, and is added to all the time. I shop at these retailers, you probably shop at them-you can’t walk through a mall or shopping district without spotting an H&M or Zara bag dangling on the arm of the fashion conscious. Advantages And let’s not kid ourselves, there’s big time appeal with fast fashion. For starters, you can’t beat the price. Under $20 for a…

    Spring 2019 Fashion Trends

Its spring fashion time again! Time to look forward to all the spring fashions we will be seeing and, perhaps, wearing in the coming months. I enjoy looking at all the trend reports and new collections this time of year and planning what trends I’ll partake in, what new pieces to add to my wardrobe, and what pieces/trends that will NOT make it into my wardrobe. This spring is a bit of a mixed-bag when it comes to an overall feel or vibe. There are the normal spring things you expects to see (florals, light gauzy fabrics, pastels), but also some random trends that have left me wondering “Where did…

    What I Got For Christmas

*I’m not trying to brag. I genuinely like reading/watching these kinds of posts/videos, so I thought I would do my own! Maybe I’m late to the game. Most of the youtubers I watch and blogs I read have done their “What I Got For Christmas” posts already. But better late than never! Right?!?! My family spoiled me this year. These are some of the things I got from my parents, brother and sister-in-law, and husband. If you didn’t know, I’m a writer. Aside from this blog, I write children’s fiction and short stories. So you better believe my annual Christmas lists includes books! I’ve already read the middle book (very Edgar Allen Poe inspired), and can’t wait to read the other two! A family saga about witches and a mysterious…

    Algenist: My First VoxBox

About a month ago, I got a wonderful email. An email from Influenster telling me I had been selected for the Algenist Genius Sleeping Collegan Cream campaign! I was so excited. I had filled out the survey influenster sends users when a new campaign is set, but wasn’t getting my hopes up. A few weeks before I had filled out a hair related survey before and not been selected. So when I got the “You’re In” email I started stalking my front porch hardcore. In about a week, my VoxBox arrived. For this particular campaign, the VoxBox included the collegan serum which I had used before and enjoyed. This serum…
