    Fall Favorites!

Its that time again! Time for a seasonal favorites post! And since today is the Winter Solstice, the official end of fall, I’d like to share my fall fashion/beauty/read and eat favorites. Fashion   These past few months, with the weather turning chilly and rainy, I’ve turned to cozier fashion items. What does that mean? Turtlenecks, so many turtlenecks. I’ve added to my turtleneck collection. What can I say? It’s a long sleeved top and scarf all in one. Genius. The one pictured above is navy striped from Madewell. The next item is my Everlane cashmere mock-neck sweater. I’ve blogged about it already (here), so I won’t bore you be rehashing…

    My Foundation Collection

I like collection posts. I’ve done a few (lipcare, eyeshadow pallets, nude lipstick), but never a foundation collection. Today is the day! I’m very picky when it comes to foundation. Who isn’t? I want a medium coverage that can build to full if I need it, a satiny finish, something that blends well, and lasting power! Foundation is also something I don’t like to straight up buy online. I need to test it against my skin, make sure its not too drying (like a lot of full coverage foundations are). Over the last couple of years I’ve tried a modest sampling of (mostly) liquid foundations. BB/CC cream It Cosmetics Your…

    My First Pair of Aquazzuras

Remember that post I did about my luxury wish-list a few months ago (here)? It featured several pairs of Aquazzuras. What can I say? I just love their edgy and sophisticated design. Well, a few weeks ago it was black Friday. See where this is going? Matchesfashion had these beauties on sale. And in my size! So I did it, I took the plunge. Treat yo-self. Coppery rose gold, just under 3 inch heel, and the cutest buckled straps you ever did see. I’m in love. They came in a very fancy box (not the Aquazzara box, but a fancy gift box from Matches) and included the dust bag you…

Winter OOTD: Keeping Warm with Cashmere

Winter outfits. That struggle to look fashionable when all you want to do is walk around under layers of sweaters and poofy coats like a polar bear. I think I may have found the answer: cashmere. Is it expensive? Yep. Is it finicky to care for? Yep. Is it unbelievably warm and soft? Yes! Last weekend I had a bunch of black Friday returns to make (online shopping is hard!). The weather here has turned cold (as least cold as far as the Pacific Northwest goes), but I didn’t want to wear a heavy coat all day. I also wanted to be comfy. The answer? Leggings, cashmere sweater, and over-the-knee…

    How I Style Vintage Trousers

One of my greatest passions is vintage and antique fashion. So when I have time there’s not much I like better (aside from shopping!) than drooling over vintage patterns and antique fashion plates. Perhaps the only downside is that most vintage fashions/patterns are dresses/skirts. But then I saw this vintage reissue pattern (9189) from Vogue for pants! I chose a thick, stretchy rayon blend in a fine houndstooth print. The pattern was an easy one, and the pants sewed up without too many problems. I even learned how to invisible hand stitch for the hem! These pants are so comfortable. They’re just the right length, and I even took in the…

Our First Trip to Portland: Food, the Outdoors, and the Best Bookstore

Fact: when there’s a three-day weekend you better believe I’m gonna take advantage of it. This last Veteran’s Day weekend we took our first trip to Portland. Knowing Portland is a foodie haven, I was pretty excited. Eating is one of my favorite things to do when traveling, and Portland did not disappoint! Food The town we live in has zero as far as good restaurants go. And while I like to cook, sometimes I just want to have a good meal or snack out. And Portland has both, in spades. Blue Star Donuts: a large selection! yeast and cake donuts Caramelization process. I didn’t get this particular donut, but…

Winter Skin and How I Deal With It

If you have dry skin, you get it. Heck, if you have combo skin, you experience it. Winter skin. Dullness, dryness, texture. Cold temperatures and dryer air- they do a number on my skin. Summer? Forget about it. Sure my skin is oilier, but a good acne cream and a couple of clarifying masks a week keep things in line. But once October/November rolls around I have to pay more attention to my skincare regime. These are some of the products I use to combat winter skin. Dullness: My skin can look at little blah this time of year. I rotate between chemical exfoliators (Pixi Glow Tonic, Aveeno 60 second…

    Pumpkin Picking in the Country

One of my favorite fall activities is pumpkin picking. Sort of funny when you consider we pick pumpkins not to eat, but to use as decoration. My parents took us when we were little, and since me and my husband live in a rural area, we go each year. One of the advantages to living in the middle of nowhere is how close we are to so many farms. One of the farms not too far away from us grows pumpkins available for you-pick every year. We really lucked out last weekend when we went. The weather was gorgeous. Not something I can often say living in the Pacific Northwest.…

    Fall Fashion Haul: Everlane

So this isn’t my first Everlane post or haul (Read the last one here!). What can I say? I’m a fan of the brand. I needed some good fall basics, some to replace clothes that had worn out, or to fill gaps in my wardrobe. I’ve been on the hunt for a good pair of black jeans for a long time now. Its hard when you’re an in between size (10-14). Lots of clothing brands stop at size 10 or 12, and most plus size brands start at size 14ish (which is usually more like a standard size 16-18). I noticed that Everlane had began offering a size 33 in…

End of the Matte Liquid Lipstick Trend?

Ah, makeup trends. They come and go, don’t they? From loads of blue eyeshadow in the 80s to the pencil thin eyebrows of the 90s (also a trend in the 30s), there are so many trends we look back on and shake our heads at. Lately I’ve been wondering if matte liquid lipstick will be one of these. Matte liquid lipstick exploded onto the makeup scene several years ago. It seems like every makeup brand had their own line of liquid lipsticks. Some are better then others, but all work on the same basic principle of a dry matte color that stays on. I, like so many other makeup lovers…
