One Weekend, Two Dresses

So last weekend I was rocking the dresses. On Saturday I had a new dress to wear, and on Sunday I went to the symphony, so I wanted to dress-up. I’m also still recovering from hand surgery, and dresses are so much easier to put on than pants.

Saturday

I picked up this beauty at Nordstrom. I’ts by the brand Hinge, which is a brand exclusive to Nordstrom. I really like the vintage feel of this dress. It’s got a 60s/70s boho feel to it, but on the other hand, the print wouldn’t be out of place for the 30s because its geometric and classically feminine because of the flowers. This dress is perfect for fall because the colors are darker and jewel-toned. The midi length and long sleeves add some warmth, but not too much since the dress is rayon; perfect for this time of year when the weather can fluctuate a lot.

And can we talk about the higher, elasticized waist? Let’s just say I ate half a pizza before we shot these photos, (it was a smaller pizza!) and was happy to have a higher waist! I paired this dress with some semi-opaque tights and my Madewell loafers. Pretty conservative given the print of the dress, but I had some walking to do that day!

Sunday

I bought this dress in London (I went to London!! You can read the first in my series of London travel posts here.) at And Other Stories. This kind of bright blue isn’t typically a color I go for. But when I tried this dress on, I was sold. It’s in a lightweight silk with a flattering v-neck and sleeves that are so short they’re almost cap sleeves. There’s even an under lining layer from the waist down, always a plus.

When I wear this dress my figure seems elongated, no small feat when you’re 5’3. I paired this dress with a pair of Coach wedges in patent nude leather, and my Tiffanys blue topaz and gold necklace. If this dress has a downside, it’s the side zipper that goes right up to the armpits. It gets irritating the longer I wear the dress. That being said, it’s not irritating enough to make me not wear the dress, especially for an event.

How about you? What are your favorite weekend dresses? Are they causal, or more formal?
