I like collection posts. I’ve done a few (lipcare, eyeshadow pallets, nude lipstick), but never a foundation collection. Today is the day! I’m very picky when it comes to foundation. Who isn’t? I want a medium coverage that can build to full if I need it, a satiny finish, something that blends well, and lasting power! Foundation is also something I don’t like to straight up buy online. I need to test it against my skin, make sure its not too drying (like a lot of full coverage foundations are). Over the last couple of years I’ve tried a modest sampling of (mostly) liquid foundations.
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (illuminating). Hands down I prefer the It Cosmetics CC cream to the Laura Mercier. The Laura Mercier tinted moisterizer is just too dark for my skin, and a little oily (even though my skin is dry!). The It Cosmetics provides surprisingly good coverage for a CC cream, mega SPF, and the perfect formulation: not too dry, not too dewy.
Fenty Pro Filt’r Matte, Clinique Superbalanced, and Nars sheer Glow. I have mixed feelings about these foundations. The Fenty one is, as the name suggests, matte. Pretty dang matte. A little too matte for my skin unless its the summer. When I wear this I have to remember not to powder my face, or else my skin will look so dry. I have to say though, the coverage is excellent, even if you do have to work fast when blending.
The Clinique foundation I had such high hopes for. I thought it would be a nice moisturizing formula that that made my skin look radiant. The reality is this foundation sits so heavily on my skin I can feel it. All. Day. Long. Eww. Nars Sheer Glow is a much thinner formula and blends easily. It doesn’t have an SPF, so its a good idea to wear some underneath. I will say this foundation blends much better with a sponge than a brush. I really need to work this one into my skin. If I don’t, it breaks down quickly.
My last two foundations have different formulations. The Dior Diorskin is a serum foundation. It is very liquidy, and easier applied with a sponge since the liquid falls into my foundation brush and gets lost! I have to say, this foundation stinks, literally. I don’t know if I got a weird bottle, or if this is just how this foundation smells. (think burnt rubber) But I still use it, a lot. Why? Bad smell aside, this foundation is amazing. So light, decent coverage, and it blends like a dream. My skin looks wonderful when I use this. Like airbrushed!
My other foundation is the BareMinerals Original powder foundation. I’ve had an on again off again relationship with this foundation. My skin looks really good after I apply, but in a few hours, not so much. Probably not the best foundation for someone with dry skin, at least not in the winter. It does give good coverage, lasts forever, and is reasonably priced for a non-drugstore foundation.
Lastly (not pictured) is the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer. I’ll be honest, I don’t like this stuff. At all. Every time I apply this bb cream, it balls up against my skin. The coverage is meh (not buildable in my opinion), and the finish is a bit greasy.
