My Current Nighttime Skincare Routine

My skincare routine is constantly evolving. And it should, really. Skin changes. We age, the seasons change, hormone levels fluctuate, skin changes. Currently I’m having some minor acne, but other than that my skin has been its normal combo self (dry cheeks, oily T-zone) with some fine lines.

My nighttime skincare routine is a bit more involved than the daytime. I like to take a bath before bed and I almost always use a mask of some sort in addition to the cleansing and moisturizing aspects of my skincare. Currently my skincare has looked something like this:

I love the Clinque Take the Day Off cleansing balm. It’s so effective. Mascara? No problem. Liquid lipstick? Don’t worry about it. I also like that a jar of this lasts a long time. After I wipe everything off with a hot, damp cloth, I move on to a water-based cleanser. Right now I’m trying out the Peter Thomas Roth Cloud Cleanser (Soap-Free). I squirt the cleanser onto my Foreo and clean my face for about a minute.

I don’t exfoliate everyday. Over exfoliation can lead to premature aging. Not for this lady thank-you-very-much! But when I do exfoliate I like this Boot Botanics microdermabrasion polish. It’s reasonably priced, and works well. My skin feels so smooth afterwards. Afterwards I mask. I do this step everyday. Lately I’ve been enjoying this sample of the Farmacy Honey Potion mask. This mask goes on very warm, and doesn’t let up. The mask is quite purifying, but unlike clay masks, not drying, My skin feels hydrated and plump afterwards.

Ah, the Pixi Glow tonic. The where-have-you-been-all-my-life product for so many of us. This is a glycolic toner that is so gentle. I tried the glycolic toner from The Ordinary and that one left my skin dry and irritated. No so with this one. After toning I use a hyaluronic serum. Right now I’m using the Marine Hyaluronics serum from The Ordinary. This serum is very thin and watery, not like the thicker, stickier hyaluronic serum with B5 from The Ordinary. The watery consistency makes it harder to use, but it still works just as well. I find this serum helps fill in the fine lines around my mouth and eyes. (Because hyaluronic acid attracts water)

I alternate my moisturizers based on the condition of my skin. When I’m having trouble with acne, I use the La Roche Posay Effaclar duo. When my skin just needs gentle hydration I reach for the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. This cream is thick and contains oatmeal, so its very soothing. Currently I’m between eye creams. I’m trying out a sample-size of the Caudalie Premier Cru. Its okay, but considering the cost of the full size, not worth it in my opinion. The cream isn’t very thick, and doesn’t work any better than drug-store eye creams. I’m thinking of trying the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Cream next.

How about you? What is your current skincare routine like?
