After what feels like forever, I’m finally back! I switched web hosts which took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I’m back at it now. So to kick things off (or on?!), I want to share a little OOTD from last weekend. I’m calling this “modern mod.”
Why “modern mod,” you may ask? Well, for starters: mini skirt. For seconds and thirds, a mini skirt made of cord material in burnt orange. Does it get more 60s than that? I picked this skirt up from Madewell a few months ago. I was on the hunt for this style of skirt and finally found one (in my size!).
The material of this skirt is what I’d call cord, but a flat, brushed cord (so, you know cord without the actual cords, if that makes sense). The buttons are snaps and are sooo strong (thank goodness). There is also some stretch to this material, but no too much
The top I’m wearing is just a little black turtle neck I picked up from H&M’s conscious range. Its cotton with a little bit of stretch. I really like it, and the price was great. Such a versatile thing to have in your wardrobe.
One of the pieces that makes this more modern is the long cardigan. No twinset here! This long, wool-blend cardigan from Madewell is very on-trend. And so deliciously cozy! I wear this all the time. I’m actually wearing as I write this! One thing I will say is that this cardigan balls up pretty fast. There are also some loose yarns. So maybe not the best quality, but for the price it is ok.
A big part of this outfits’ modern aesthetic are the details. First: boots. Unlike Nancy Reagan’s boots, these boots aren’t exactly made for walking.
Made of black suede (comfort point!), these boots have a 3.25″ heel. Not sky-high, and probably ok for a frequent high-heel wearer. I can go for 4-5hrs in these. (I like to think that when I wear these I’m really training for 105mm Aquazzuras!) The shaft of the boot is also short; the top is just a few inches above my ankles.
And finally the handbag that is a satchel/backpack. I’ve blogged about this bag before (here), so I won’t go into it too much. Suffice to say this isn’t the demure handbag of the mod era. This bag is large and in charge. Meant to be seen. And it holds a lot!!
What are your favorite era outfit combinations?
