How I Double Cleanse, Makeup Removal and Foreo

I haven’t always cleansed my face the way I should. I was a body wash and washcloth kind of person until my mid twenties. Yikes! I got away with that in high school. My skin was okay, especially for a teenager. But once I started wearing makeup in my twenties I knew that kind of thing wasn’t going to cut the mustard anymore. I started with makeup wipes. And while they do in a pitch, I feel like they don’t ultimately get all my makeup off, and my face feels a little raw afterwards. Several years ago I watched a Lisa Eldrige video on makeup removal. In the video she mentioned a few cleansing balms. I didn’t know what those were, but I was intrigued. I picked up the Clinique Take the Day Off balm and haven’t looked back since.

I’m now the proud owner/user of my cleansing balms than I’ll ever need! If you don’t know how they work, you basically take some balm from the jar, or pump onto your fingers and massage it into your skin until all your makeup breaks down. Some balms are more oil-based and some aren’t. My favorite ones are the ones that are less oily feeling. They’re much easier to wipe away. I like to use a washcloth, or muslin cloth soaked in hot water to then remove the balm and makeup. I know my face is makeup free when no more mascara comes off into the cloth.

Next are the water-based cleansers. I’ve tried so many, and most work about the same, to be honest. So I often buy mine from the drugstore. The Simple cleanser is very basic, and also very cheap! The L’Oreal clay cleanser is a wash and scrub all in one, and therefore not a product I use everyday, but a couple times a week.

I was never a face tool cleanser kind of person. And then I got the play Foreo in a Sephora gift set. I was surprised at how effective it was and how well my skin did with it. I recently picked this one up (mini rechargeable) in the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, and love how long it stays charged and the different speeds.

And that’s it! Do you double cleanse? What’s your double cleanse routine like?
