Asos, Banana Republic, Sezane, and Born

When you live in the Pacific Northwest you have to roll with the punches, weather-wise. This is especially true if you’re a fashion blogger because natural light is so essential to taking decent outfit photos. Well, last Saturday the weather was crap. Rain all day and cloudy, dark skies. But I didn’t want to let this Asos/Banana Republic, Sezane, and Born combo go to waste. So we did some indoor shooting. Not the best photos you’ll see on this blog, but such is life. (I also had to edit these photos within an inch of their life) First up, this gray, chunky-knit, v-neck sweater from Asos. This is a dupe…

    Brand Review: Everlane

Everlane has been making some serious waves the last few years. From their transparency regarding how their clothes are made, to their reasonable pricing on high quality items like cashmere sweaters and leather bags, they’ve made a name for themselves. And all without a physical store until last year! After I read my first blog post on the brand (can’t remember the blog), I was intrigued. I like high quality basics, neutral colors, and classic cuts. I also don’t mind investing in pieces that I know I will wear for a long time. So I put in my first order: a few of their classic t-shirts. T-shirts A black scoop…

    Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

One of the things I like about living in the Pacific Northwest are the numerous festivals, events, and beautiful nature spots within driving distance. Even though we’ve lived here for several years, this was out first time to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. We started off our day with afternoon tea at the Olde Towne Grainery Tea Room in Mt. Vernon. I’m a sucker for afternoon tea. I mean there’s copious amount of tea, sandwiches, scones with devonshire cream, and sweets. What’s not to like? The atmosphere of this tea shop was quite twee. Think lace dollies and lots of knick-knacks. No big deal though, because the service and the…

    My Lip Care Collection

I’ve always worn chapstick, who hasn’t? I’ve always made sure to have a tube or stick in my purse. But it wasn’t until I went through a course of Accutane a couple of years ago that I really started to up my lip care game. My first pricier lip product was the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Intensive Lip Balm. Let me tell you, that stuff is great. When my lips pealed EVERY day (like completely shed their skin every day) this was about the only thing that brought hydration. Vaseline helped too, but only as long as I could keep it on, which wasn’t long. Since then I’ve…experimented. This…

    Embroidery, My Sit-on-the-couch Hobby

I have a few hobbies, but one of the ones I’ve been into the most lately is embroidery. I first dabbled in embroidery when I was ten. I wasn’t very good. And I didn’t have the dedication as a ten-year-old to pursue it. A few years ago I took it up again when I sewed a 1920s reproduction nightgown. I wanted to add a little pizzazz to the front, so I embroidered a little floral motif. Not my finest piece of work, but it got me started. My current project is pretty big. I’m embroidering the back of a blanket. It’s Tudor inspired. Since I was a child I’ve been…

Sephora VIB Sale Wish List: Skincare

I’ll admit, when it comes to skincare I splash out far more than I need to. I get skincare (or so I like to think). I’ve only worn makeup consistently for a few years, but skincare it my comfort zone. There’s also the obvious self-care element to it that I love. 1.  Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask I first tried this mask last year in a Sephora value set. The thing I instantly loved was the fact that although this is a purifying clay mask, it didn’t dry out my skin. Amazing! Not even sure how Fresh managed to make a clay mask that isn’t drying, but I’ll take it! 2. Ren Evercalm…

Sephora Vib Sale Wish list: Makeup

Its the most wonderful time of the year! At least if you’re a Sephora junkie, which I am. Its VIB time, the semi-annul sale for Sephora VIB members. I’ve been compiling my wish list, well since the last VIB sale in November. I’ve broken down my list into makeup and skincare. This is the makeup portion! 1.  Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil I’ve been looking for a smoother eyeliner. I have several from Colorpop that have nice color and staying power, but the application isn’t that smooth. I tried this on in store and it glided so nicely across my hand. This particular shade is a dark brown with sparkle.…

Asos and Aritzia, A day Out in the City

When we spend a day in the city I want to look good, but also stay warm/comfortable. Cue a pair of mom jeans, sneakers, a nice blouse, and big, heavy wool coat. The jeans are the Farleigh high waisted mom jeans from Asos. The top is a recent purchase from Aritzia (my first time wearing this brand!). The coat is an old swing style one from Modcloth before Walmart bought the company and the selection became kind of meh. Let’s just talk about these jeans, because they are one of my favorite jeans in a loooong time. A while ago I got it into my head that I HAD to…

    The Bare Essentials Makeup

When I want to get out the door, or I’m just not feeling a full face of makeup (probably because I plan on napping), this is the makeup I go for. A little lash, concealer for the under eyes and ache scars, powder to set the concealer, blush so I don’t look too pale, clear brow gel because I have long eyebrow hairs that like to go all wonky, and my favorite nude lipstick; these are my little cast of bare essential makeup characters. The blush is by Lancome and quite possibly the best blush I’ve ever used. It is very finely milled and pressed so well (and believe me,…

    OOTD: Urban Chic and Comfortable

Those days when you want to look like you’ve put effort into your outfit, but not feel like you’re wearing too much effort. This is that outfit for me. Sneakers, stretchy high waisted pants, and a t-shirt, yes please! Besides the comfort factor, there’s a urban chic feel to this outfit that I have really been digging lately. I think its the combination of classic Adidas with dressy cropped trousers that give a nice contrast. The scalloped detail on the trousers adds a nice touch. It’s these kind of small details that really elevate basic pieces, something that makes you take a second look. When I tried on these trousers in…
