VIB sale: What I bought at the Sephora sale

What I Bought Well, the Sephora VIB sale has come and gone. It’s a long wait until the November sale (which, lets face it, is a better sale anyways), but in the meantime I thought I’d share my sale haul with you! Naturally, most of what I purchased is skincare. Yes, I’m a skincare junkie, I know. But there were some makeup bits as well! Makeup I’m always on the hunt for a good foundation. Its pretty common for at least one foundation to make it into my VIB sale haul! I tried some of this tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation on the back of my hand in store…

    My First Crewel Embroidery Project

I love embroidery. On clothes, linens, home decor-it can be so beautiful. And while I’ve been embroidering myself for many years now, I’ve only recently become attune to the fact that there are several different types of embroidery. One of the oldest, and the first one I chose to tackle, is Crewel embroidery. Crewel Embroidery But what is Crewel embroidery? Basically here’s how I understand it: 1. must be done with wool thread (if its not its technically not crewel) and 2. uses a variety of stitches (freehand, not counted) to create texture. One of the distinguishing features of crewel work is not just the design, but the uses of…

    Spring 2019 Sephora VIB Wish-List

Its that time again! Sephora VIB sale! When expensive beauty products actually go on sale (miracle of miracles, right?). Today I thought I’d share with you what’s on my VIB wish-list. Makeup Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pencil: A repurchase for me. I love this pencil. It lasts so long, and blends into my brows effortlessly. And unlike the brow wiz, the spoolie doesn’t break. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Breakout concealer: When I discovered this product existed I was like “Why didn’t anyone think of this sooner?” Concealer is a go-to for when I get a pimple, so why not have one that contains acne-fighting ingredients. No-brainer, onto my VIB wish-list…

Minimal Style: OOTD with Pops of Color

I’ll let you in on a little secret: I don’t always plan my ootd posts. Sometimes, they just happen. Like last weekend. I was wearing a pair of black jeans and a white t shirt. Nothing special. But then we needed to go to the grocery store *moan.* I threw on a blazer (because its not exactly coat weather, but grocery stores are cold!) and my pair of Aquazzara heels and BOOM. Unexpected minimal style ootd. I looked at myself in the mirror and was like “Oh, this is going to be an OOTD post for sure.” White linen blazer, black jeans, white v-neck t-shirt, rose-gold mule heels. Minimal OOTD,…

    My First Hermes Scarf

When we were in Vancouver a couple weeks ago, one of the places I really wanted to hit up was the Hermes boutique. And wouldn’t you know, there was one across the street from our hotel! Coincidence? Or meant to be? Either way, I bought my first Hermes scarf! Dream Scarf I’ve wanted a Hermes scarf for years, but always told myself I would buy one when I got a literary agent, or when a publisher bought my book. After a year of querying my novel, let’s just say I’m not holding my breath. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not stopping, or giving up. Somewhere out there there’s an agent…

Vancouver, B.C. My Favorite Weekend Getaway

Living in the Pacific Northwest is pretty dang convenient for short trips and travel. Portland, the Olympic Peninsula, Seattle, even the Wine country of central Washington. But my favorite place to go for a short trip is Vancouver, B.C. This city quite literally has it all. Nature, fantastic scenery, world-class dining, and shopping. Its my kind of place. Last weekend me, my husband, and Otis (our dog) went to Vancouver. Here’s what we got up to. Day 1 Granville Island Market Otis, just loving all the attention (and food!) at the market Step aside Pike’s Place, there’s a new kid in town, and that kid’s name is Granville Island Market.…

    Travel Planning: Getting Started

If you’re like me, few things are more exciting that the prospect of travel. Big trips overseas, domestic travel, even the weekend getaway; I love them all. And while all trips require a certain amount of planning, big trips to places you’ve never been before demand the most. At the moment I’m planning a trip to Germany this summer, which is a bit stressful. I’ve never been to Germany and questions like “How much German will I need to know,” “Should we rent a car, or stick with the trains,” and “Why are German toilets so weird?” Are barreling through my mind. The way I combat this travel anxiety? Like…

Spring Fashion: What’s New on My Rack

Over the last few months I’ve been on the hunt for some spring pieces. I always feel so inspired by spring fashion. All the floral prints, bright colors, and lighter fabrics get my ootd gears working. I’m usually more of a fall person in terms of adding new pieces to my wardrobe. Spring and summer where I live is shorter than most places, so I get more use out of warmer clothing. So this year I really needed some spring options. Bias skirt If it seems like everybody and their dog has been wearing bias skirts for the last year, its because they have! And I’m here for it, big…

    90s Inspired Grunge OOTD

I spent most of the 90s wearing cutesy dresses, things with Minnie Mouse or Barney on them, and all-denim ensembles with Timberlands (yes, that last one actually happened, I have the pictures to prove it). So I missed out on some pretty cool trends. Some of these trends are back in style (bias skirts, neon, big sweaters), and last weekend I was channeling the 90s dress + cardigan + boots grunge ootd. All The Craft vibes, let me tell you. To wear chartreuse, I really have to be feeling myself, lol. Dress I got this dress from Asos a couple of years ago for a trip to Jamaica (yay for…

Beauty Products I Wish I’d Had as a Teenager

Its amazing how much beauty products have changed since I was a teenager. The drugstore has upped its game big time, and the shear number of brands and product offerings have increased drastically. I was also a bit oblivious to skincare and makeup in general until my twenties, so there’s that, lol. Today I thought I’d share some of the products I really wish I’d had when I was a teenager. Skincare My main skin concerns back then were acne and redness. While I didn’t have the cystic acne I do as an adult, like any teenager, I got pimples. Oh, how I wish I’d had the Origins Spot Treatment…
